OUR STORY
Cable Bay Vineyards produces premium hand crafted wines reflective of the terroir of our estate-owned vineyards located on Waiheke Island and in Marlborough – two of the most distinctive and desirable wine growing regions in New Zealand.
Our estate is situated on the stunning west coast of Waiheke Island and includes vineyards, the winery, olive groves, organic gardens, two restaurants, private event spaces, a cellar door and an expansive outdoor lawn area with spectacular views.
Our first vineyard was planted in 1998 on Waiheke Island and our very first vintage of Chardonnay produced in 2002 won a gold medal at the prestigious International Wine Challenge in London. We were off to a good start! With the vision to hand-craft outstanding wines from the highest quality fruit, grown in small lot vineyards we added more varietals to our portfolio and in 2007 we opened the doors to our stunning venue on Waiheke Island including the winery, cellar door, private event rooms and an award-winning dining room. An impressive private art collection from acclaimed New Zealand artists is on permanent display throughout the building.
In 2013, we opened the wine bar and added the Verandah restaurant with an outdoor kitchen and wood-fired oven offering Mediterranean inspired food.
We then acquired two additional vineyards, located in Awatere Valley, a highly regarded sub region of Marlborough with a global reputation for producing premium quality grapes that produce vibrant fruit driven wines. All of our vineyards are accredited with New Zealand Sustainable Winegrowing and select vineyards are organic under the BioGro program.
Our Waiheke estate continued to grow and in 2015 we developed our organic kitchen gardens implementing a bokashi waste management system where we turn kitchen food waste into nutrient rich soil to grow our own vegetables, micro greens and herbs. Our chefs champion the garden to plate philosophy which involves showcasing freshly harvested, seasonal produce from our own gardens on the menu.
Further expansion in 2016 included acquiring an olive grove from which we produce our own olive oil and a small fruit tree orchid. We planted 2500 manuka trees, set up several bee hives and started our own honey production.
Our growth continued with the addition of a luxury accommodation in 2017 providing an extension to the Cable Bay experience for our valued guests.
Cable Bay Vineyards has cultivated an enviable reputation for our stunning wines, outstanding food and spectacular views in an elegant and sophisticated setting, with an unrelenting focus on quality and service. We continue to deliver our vision to provide unique, enjoyable and memorable experiences.
