“It’s hard to top a leisurely afternoon at Cable Bay. The restaurant, housed in a sleek, low-slung building, has floor-to-ceiling windows that show off sensational views across to Auckland, and sits beside the recently expanded Wine Bar… The food is clever without being too clever, with flavours balanced harmoniously and ingredients reflecting the seasons. A starter of cured salmon with smoked creme fraiche, cucumber, grapefruit and fennel is excellent, with squid ink puree adding an extra dimension. Dessert is a highlight, particularly a dish of poached autumn fruits with creme fraiche, walnut caramel and puff pastry. Service is pleasant…, while the wine list, in addition to the expected Cable Bay offerings, features some good European choices.
